Stay Alive @ Alaska

The word "Alaska" evolved from the Aleutian language “Alyeska”, meaning "great land".

Alaska

He is actually the world's largest non-native territory. Thanks for the Russians sold Alaska to the United States by mistake, we are able to enjoy the deep tour of Alaska. the word " Enjoy” maybe some false ingredients. Alaska is a place where many people are discouraged, the average temperature will always be negative, travel here would never be an excellent choice to relax. But if you are lucky enough, you can see a lot of wonders that you would never see before.

Cost

First let’s talk about the cost. The total cost of about 2000 dollar/person, it is still very expensive even after distributed to 4 people. if we have 6 people instead it will be more provincial. In Alaska, you have many different ways to travel, you can spend the whole day watching the mountain, or you can choose to drive to where ever you want. It’s up to you.  Take one of the interests, Coldfoot, for example. Coldfoot is a small place inside the arctic circle. We choose to drive there from Fairbanks and it cost us 7 hours to get there. You can also take planes to there, which took only 1 hour and it’s much safer than driving. Since most of the time we stayed outside the city, there is hardly any good food we had there. But one the breakfast that made by an Airbnb house owner really impressed me.

The most questions I got during the travel is: have you see the aurora? Indeed, watching aurora seems to have become the core of Alaska travel, we only see one time.

The aurora is very transient.  Alaska has several forecast sites, every day they update the location and intensity of Aurora, but they even do not have a unified data. Aurora is very random, we are still in the Arctic Circle, the car to a place away from the residential area without lights wore the cold of -40 ° until near 2 am to see the specter of aurora flowing in the night sky. However, the first day of the aurora is early in the 10 o' clock or so, and we are still in the room to rest. Then one day later, we waited for a night did not appear, but accidentally saw the stars as the animation appeared, is also very lucky.

What comes next is the famous Alaska ice fishing. It is common to stay in the bitterly wintry weather for an entire day without catching anything. the lake We went to is contracted by a Taiwanese family. Because the lake has been frozen, several small wood houses were the builder on it. If you are too cold. Just get inside and have a cup of hot cocoa.

We were also in the Denali National Park Sanctuary for an entire day. This national park is famous for seeing a variety of animals. According to our experience, it only depends on how lucky you are. We see three elks in the first 10 min when we talk into the national park, but none of them for the rest of the tour.

There are also many small events in Fairbanks that held in the spring. The international Ice Engraving festival was one of them we meet by chance.

The trip to Alaska is like the tour that tests your luck. Spending over half of the time on the car is indeed a tough thing. but a matter of fact, it is one of the most amazing places I have ever been to.
