Team Q&A:
1. How do you know each other?
We knew each other since August 2016. Everyone comes from different places but we all met here at University of Notre Dame, while studying Master of Science in Accountancy. Believe it or not, we are all somewhat of an expert in accounting, so we have a common goal to pursue. Also, after every football home game in the first semester, we would chat about it over the weekend, and that’s how we got close.
2. Where does the team name come from?
When people talk about Route 66, it represents a journey of dream chasing. This route collects and bears the weight of too many memories and histories of America. It will also be our last travel experience before graduation. If you like New Age Music, you definitely know the famous album ‘Dreamcatcher’ from the Irish-Norwegian duo Secret Garden. Under the suggestion by Xiaozhou, we decided to use “Dream Catcher 66” to name our team, in the hope that we can catch our dreams in this road trip and take them home.
3. Why do you choose those places for your road trip?
The idea came from a causal talk between Zhenghao Yu and Hui Li. They just brought up self-driving unintentionally, and they’ve both heard about Route 66 can bring new understanding and insights to a person’s life. Although they love self-driving, this trip normally is really time-consuming and the distance is also really long, so they didn’t end up having the opportunity to drive Route 66. However, for this time, we are graduating soon and later everyone is going to move to different cities for work, so we really don’t get a better chance than this spring break. We sincerely wish to cross this item off our bucket list, and enjoy a road trip that is full of dreams.
4. Is there anyone in the team has solo travel experiences? What are your concerns about this trip?
Two male team members have a lot of solo travel experiences, and the rest of the team also have traveled to many places, so we don’t actually worry too much about the self-drive part.
We all have different personalities, different life styles and food preferences, so we may have some disagreements at some points along the trip.
Last but not least, since Route 66 is a time-consuming option, it is possible for us to experience exhaustion and carsickness along the way. In that case we will make some adjustments to our schedule accordingly.
5. If you have to describe each teammate as a kind of food, what would it be?
I think Xiaozhou would be Tsingtao Beer. Being a drinker who comes from Shandong province, you can never ever underestimate her drinking capacity.
Ben would be Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs, because he’s such a warm person, so sweet & sour suits him well.
Hui Li would be Eel Slices with Sesame Oil. This a famous dish from Su Zhou, which seems very appropriate to describe him because he is gentle and considerate.
Serena would be Matcha Bubble Tea, because she is sweet and no one can ever be bored of her.
6. Is there anything you want to tell your supporters?
Travel always means different to everyone. This road trip to us, is a tribute to our past youth, also a journey of discovering ourselves. Being in a foreign country, being with like-minded friends, and going on an amazing trip to enjoy the fantastic scenery, this is how we define true happiness. Hope everyone can support our team, and we also hope that our travel experience can inspire more people to go on road trips. Future, in the far distance, is on our feet, and it is also on the steering wheel that we hold on tight.
